The Archway Bridge
1806-1807

Aqueduct which brings water from the general ditch to the New Orchard. Built by José Tormo Ferrero, on the Clariano river in the ravine of Fos, its daring architectural stands out, with a single masonry arch of 17 meters high and 14.6 in diameter.

The work, according to Madoz- was funded by neighbors, as is reflected in these verses taken from the poem “l’Arcada” by the poet Miguel Ferrándiz:

“Allí veig a tot un poble
de set-cents veïns format,
que treballa en fe i constància
en cerca del benestar;
que tots formen un sol home
de grandiosa voluntat;
que no miren sacrificis
i no els dol el treball
que posen per conseguir
de que l’horta es faça gran,
i puguen a ser famílies
donar-los prou menjar
tota classe d’hortalisses
i bollets, coques i pa.”

In the same place, in the pre-construction century, there was a wooden aqueduct.

A must for a predominantly agricultural economy infrastructure.
